Whitney Anderson, 2015 graduate of Lewisville ISD’s Hebron High School, was awarded the Kristen Webb Memorial Scholarship through LEF’s scholarship program last spring.

“Receiving the Kristen Webb Memorial Scholarship was truly an honor,” Anderson said. “Not only was I thrilled to be receiving a scholarship to help me attend Texas Tech University, I was also thrilled to be receiving it in memory of such an amazing young lady. Although I never knew Kristen, from what I’ve learned, she was a complete inspiration to everyone around her, never letting anything bring her down or stand in the way of her aspirations and dreams. Receiving a scholarship is one of the most rewarding feelings, thankfulness and gratitude overwhelm me. Receiving the Kristen Webb Memorial Scholarship inspired me and helped me in so many other ways as well, rather than just financially. I’m in college and working hard to better my life and have an amazing and rewarding future, but I’m also doing this for her and the Webb family.”

Anderson now attends Texas Tech University. “Currently as a second semester Freshmen I am doing really well!” she said. “I’m studying biophysical anthropology but thinking of changing majors to geology with a minor in renewable energy such as hydro, thermal, solar or wind and quite possibly petroleum engineering, to one day be a petroleum geologist. The options are endless! I’m really excited to complete my ‘core’ classes and start diving into more upper division coursework and classes within my major! I am also applying to the Honors College and hoping to try out for the Texas Tech Track team later in the year! I am loving college and so appreciative of all the help LEF and LISD have provided me and so very thankful to have been a student in the Lewisville Independent School District which offers so much help and support to its students!”

Gratitude propels her in college life. “The scholarship really helped me pay for my expenses at Texas Tech. Fortunately, I was able to take my freshmen year off of work and truly focus on school and extracurricular activities such as TAB (Tech Activities Board) as well as a Skydiving Club and a Humanitarian Club. Not only has this scholarship allowed me the privilege to not work, it also has helped pay for all my books, which are so expensive in college!”

LEF works with local booster clubs and PTAs to administer scholarships, and is home to endowed scholarships designed to honor the memory or legacy of those who leave a positive mark on LISD.

LEF is proud of Anderson’s success thus far and is honored to be a small part of it! LEF will have a similar role in LISD’s 2016 graduates’ future. The deadline to submit an application is Friday, January 29, 2016, at 4:30 pm.

Applicants will be notified via email in April as to the status of their application. Those selected will be invited to participate in LEF’s annual Awards Night on May 9, at Lewisville High School’s Stuver Auditorium, where benefactors will be on hand to present awards.
