Lauren Taylor, 2015 graduate of Lewisville ISD’s Lewisville High School, was awarded the Meredith M. Gregory Memorial Scholarship through LEF’s scholarship program last spring.
“I no doubt feel honored to have been chosen to receive an academic gift so valuable in the college world as a check,” Taylor said. “It means education, and to me, education means everything!”
Taylor now attends the University of North Texas. “I thought I knew what I wanted to do in my life,” she said. “But as it turns out, my views are changing. Why a science-oriented brain like mine veered into a career of social work, which involves no science whatsoever, I cannot even fathom. But I am glad to be figuring this out so soon! I hope to change my major to something medically oriented because in my heart I know I am meant for the medical field!”
She recognizes the long-term impact of the LEF scholarship on her college experience. “In all honesty, it helped me to not have to pay as much for tuition, which in turn means less money to pay back in student loans. I’ll take less debt over anything in the world!”
LEF works with local booster clubs and PTAs to administer scholarships, and is home to endowed scholarships designed to honor the memory or legacy of those who play a role in student success in LISD.
LEF is proud of Taylor’s success thus far and is honored to be a small part of it! LEF will have a similar role in LISD’s 2016 graduates’ future. Scholarship applications are currently under review.
Applicants will be notified via email in April as to the status of their application. Those selected will be invited to participate in LEF’s annual Awards Night on May 9, at Lewisville High School’s Stuver Auditorium, where benefactors will be on hand to present awards.
