Lauren Sheffield, 2015 graduate of Lewisville ISD’s Hebron High School, was awarded the Hebron High School PTSA Scholarship through LEF’s scholarship program last spring.
“Getting the scholarship from LEF/LISD makes me feel grateful and successful,” Sheffield said. “I am grateful that I was given the ability to grow up in a school district that provided me with all the resources I needed to get to college. I was able to learn in an environment with teachers and faculty that truly valued who I was and cared about my future. I’m grateful for my parents who have supported me my entire life and have pushed me to excel. I also feel successful because when I look back on the hard work I put into academics in high school I am now witnessing the rewards from years of diligence and perseverance.”
Sheffield now attends Texas A&M University. “I am in the beginning stages of my major, so I’m finishing up the last of my basics,” she said. “I am looking forward to future semesters of strictly communication-related classes. I have gotten involved in the Baptist Student Ministry on campus, the local college ministry at Central Baptist, and the Student Communication Association. One of the biggest plans I am looking to be involved with is studying abroad in Italy for a semester.”
She knows she isn’t flying solo. “For me, the scholarship helps me honor my parents. They are paying for experiences at A&M, so it motivates me to continue to work hard in college, so I honor their continual support and financial expenses.”
LEF works with local booster clubs and PTAs to administer scholarships, and is home to endowed scholarships designed to honor the memory or legacy of those who play a role in student success in LISD.
LEF is proud of Sheffield’s success thus far and is honored to be a small part of it! LEF will have a similar role in LISD’s 2016 graduates’ future: The scholarship application is open now at lisdef.com.
All LISD seniors should apply. The deadline to submit an application is Friday, January 29, 2016, at 4:30 pm.
Applicants will be notified via email in April as to the status of their application. Those selected will be invited to participate in LEF’s annual Awards Night on May 9, at Lewisville High School’s Stuver Auditorium, where benefactors will be on hand to present awards.
