“Unbelievable,” that’s the word used by LEF Executive Director Connie Pelphrey when the numbers showed LEF surpassed the $1 million mark in grant awards to Lewisville ISD schools. From its inception in 1990, until Pelphrey took the reins at LEF in 2004, the Foundation had awarded grants totaling $280,796. In the last 10 years that number more than tripled, with LEF crossing the $1 million mark with the grants awarded this fall.
“This milestone is a testament to the commitment of LEF’s donors,” Pelphrey said. “From the first donation in 1990 to the most recent receipts, the businesses, parents and educators in the Lewisville ISD community have been steadfast in their support of LEF, and that is why we are able to reach this milestone.”
In addition to teacher grants and Fund-A-Need awards celebrated earlier this school year, in November LEF awarded four campus grants.
The recipients of the 2014 campus grants are:
Dale Jackson Career Center — Hospitality Kitchen
DeLay Middle School — Rainwater Harvesting System for School Garden
Hicks Elementary — Action Based Learning Lab
Liberty Elementary — Outdoor Learning Environment
