Kennedy Kessler, 2015 graduate of Lewisville ISD’s Marcus High School was awarded the BeLinda Nikkel Heritage Elementary Hawk Scholarship through LEF’s scholarship program last spring.
“I was really excited to receive the scholarship,” Kessler said. “It definitely helped me pay for this semester of school, and I am thankful I was chosen to receive a scholarship.”
Kessler now attends Hardin Simmons University. “I am a biology major with the goal to apply to Physical Therapy school in a few years” she told LEF. “ I am also on the soccer team. This year we lost in the Sweet 16 (at the NCAA Division III tournament) in penalty kicks, but it was a great experience because I got to travel to Pennsylvania.”
The down side to all that soccer is the upside to earning a scholarship. “Since I decided to play soccer in college I do not have a lot of free time to work,” Kessler said. “The scholarship helped me focus more on preparing for soccer rather than working more in the summer.”
LEF works with local booster clubs and PTAs to administer scholarships, and is home to endowed scholarships designed to honor the memory or legacy of those who play a role in student success in LISD.
LEF is proud of Kessler’s success thus far and is honored to be a small part of it! LEF will have a similar role in LISD’s 2016 graduates’ future: The scholarship application is open now at lisdef.com/apply.
All LISD seniors should apply. The deadline to submit an application is Friday, January 29, 2016, at 4:30 pm.
Applicants will be notified via email in April as to the status of their application. Those selected will be invited to participate in LEF’s annual Awards Night on May 9 at Lewisville High School’s Stuver Auditorium, where benefactors will be on hand to present awards.
