Inaugural LEF Week Raises Over $203,000

In its first ever “LEF Week” celebration, the Lewisville ISD Education Foundation hosted a series of in-person events and virtual campaigns to raise over $203,000 in support of Lewisville ISD teachers, students and community members.

“Every year, we host two major fundraising events that have become staples of the community. This year, we had to cancel and reschedule those events a few times due to the pandemic and that really kickstarted the idea of creating LEF Week – a time period dedicated to celebrating all things LEF, just in time to ring in our 30th anniversary,” says Dr. Thomas White, Executive Director of LEF.

Teacher Grant Awards unofficially set the stage in early October, where the foundation awarded nearly $103,000 to 66 teachers around the district. A week later, the 30 Hours for 30 Years Campaign kickstarted LEF’s 30th Anniversary festivities, followed soon after on October 12 by the annual LEF Golf Classic hosted at the Lakes at Castle Hills course.

“The Golf Classic is usually held in the spring with a shotgun start but we made quite a few changes this year to ensure participants safety,” says Terry Allen, Senior Vice President at Frost Bank and Co-Chair of the Golf Classic committee. “We switched teams to tee times which limited contact with other players. It ended up being a beautiful day focused on good times and golf!”

A silent online auction began the same day with 90 packages available for bidding, ranging from unique handcrafted goods to exceptional community experiences and entertainment. These packages were donated by community members and businesses and valued at a total of over $30,000. Running alongside the silent auction were virtual Matching Day Challenges sponsored by Welch HVAC, Hilltop Securities, Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, and Texas Trust Credit Union. Each business pledged to match dollar-for-dollar any given donation made on their sponsored day.

“This was our first year to partner with LEF, and we are grateful for the opportunity to work with an organization that makes a lasting impact on the lives of LISD students and staff,” says Tyra Garcia, Business and Community Engagement Partner of Texas Trust Credit Union.

The end of LEF Week on October 18th was marked by the annual Evening For Education event, which has been going on for over 20 years but this year, was one unlike any other.

“The pandemic pushed us to think outside the box to ensure a safe but fun event leading us to partner with a brand new venue that could safely host 1,000 people while still having enough space to ensure social distance,” says Mary Jacoby, DATCU Community Relation Coordinator and Evening For Education Co-Chair.

Grandscape, a new mixed-use development filled with trendy restaurants and entertainment destinations in The Colony hosted LEF’s 30th Anniversary Evening For Education at their outdoor stage and lawn area. Thirteen Grandscape restaurants and bars provided food and drinks for guests to enjoy while they enjoyed an outdoor concert by local band, Big City Outlaws. The evening also included a student showcase of LISD TECC East and West schools which included the culinary, firefighter, veterinary and Starfish Creations programs.

The event celebrated LEF’s 30 years of supporting LISD and ushered in a new era of re-imagining donor relationships at the Foundation.

“We want everyone to support programs they are passionate about,” says White. “Whether you want to attend an event, give to a virtual campaign, or support a District program at a local campus, we want to help you find your niche and create a space that connects a donor’s desire to support with a program that fulfills that passion.”

With new events and new virtual resources, LEF is poised to create another 30 years of lasting impact for all LISD students and teachers.
