From the Donor’s Perspective This Month’s Focus – Library Lovers’ Grant Endowment
By Dr. Marilyn Beaird
About Michael Beaird
Michael Edward Beaird was an avid reader who was born, raised, and educated in Athens, TX. In college, he couldn't decide whether to major in English (he loved classic literature) or Business Administration (he read the Wall Street Journal religiously). In 1967, he took a break from his college pursuits to join the Marine Corps where he served his country in Vietnam during the late 1960's.
After returning from Vietnam, he completed his degree in Business Administration at East Texas State University, now Texas A&M – Commerce. He worked for Burlington Industries and Johnson & Johnson before landing his dream job with the Dr Pepper Company. Ultimately serving as the Director of Purchasing and Promotions, he spent 19 years promoting his favorite brand of soft drinks.
From His Family
I established the Library Lovers' Grant to honor Michael's memory. While most of his career was spent in promotional marketing, he was an avid reader with a passion for learning. Education was extremely important to him. Not only did he support me as I pursued a doctorate, but he also encouraged our children to seek advanced degrees. Our son Miller achieved a Masters of Education and our daughter Marilee holds a Bachelor of Science.
The Library Lovers' Grant incorporates all the things he loved the most - reading, education, and investing in others. This type of memorial would make him proud. |
