JERRI FAULDS RECOGNIZED AS LIFETIME BOARD MEMBER
LEF has enjoyed excellent board leadership over it's twenty year history. Each board member provides LEF with unique gifts and talents and lends a representative voice to the larger LISD community.
However, there have been a select few whose passion for LEF's mission is deep rooted and rich; a few whose commitment have surpassed LEF's expectations of service. To honor those special members for their extended service and dedication, LEF created the Lifetime Board Member distinction. This year, LEF honors Jerri Faulds. Before completing her active board service, we caught up with her for a little Q&A.
Connie Pelphrey (CP): Having served on the board since 2002 and held numerous positions, including Nominating and Governance Committees and Gala Reservations Chair, what do you see as LEF's major impact of service?
Jerri Faulds (JF): LEF helps high school seniors get a start in college, some who may not have been able to attend otherwise. Through teacher grants, teachers get to do incredible educational projects with their students, most they could not afford to do on their own.
CP: What has been your favorite LEF experience?
JF: There are many, but the first year we had the individual restaurants at the gala was very impressive! Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time and enjoyed it much better than a more formal, sit down event.
CP: What was the most challenging?
JF: Getting LEF to design and print brochures. I think we need to be stronger in our marketing efforts to the citizens of LISD.
CP: What do you wish others knew about LEF?
JF: That it exists! I am surprised by how many know nothing about LEF. We need the support of LISD, especially the principals, to get the word out to the teachers and students that money is available.
CP: So why should someone support LEF?
JF: When you support LEF, you support not only education but also the students, teachers and community as a whole.
CP: If you could change one thing about LEF, what would it be?
JF: Nothing. They are doing a great job. Increasing the Gala profit from $21,000 to over $90,000 in 5 years if phenomenal. Continuing to do that is the only change we need!
CP: What has surprised you most about working with LEF?
JF: The generosity of our community. When they find out what we do, they are eager to help by either donating goods and services or volunteering.
CP: Okay, so the big question: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
JF: That I own and ride a motorcycle!
"I am honored to be chosen as a Lifetime Member of LEF. I plan to continue volunteering for the foundation and inform people of the great work LEF does for the LISD community." -Jerri Faulds
